Travels

It’s our pleasure to announce that the “fishing for ideas” project is among the best service/business design work selected for the final exhibition of 23rd Biennial of Design International – Museum for Architecture and Design in Ljubljana – Slovenia.
From around 450 entries we are in the run for the final award among other 90 candidates. It will be difficult since this is a contest with tradition in product design…still, it’s an honor to have the opportunity to be there to talk about our project, to be in the official design book and, most important, seeing our work being recognized as truly innovative.

We’ve applied for the “Globalisation” – Social Local (Categorie) and here are a a few words from the curators:
” Selected works for the BIO 23 exhibition show an impulse of how designers and the works they create are influenced by modern technologies, digitalisation and new technologies. Other selected works show contemporary designers embracing the resourcefulness of nature and its processes, while others display an amazing capability to use technology.”

We where both out for so months working and freelancing for some agencies but we are back and committed to continue the fishing for ideas project.
Thanks also to all the people who helped us during this process. Online and Offline.

After spending the monday developing tools our Tuesday was simply crazy…Visiting “Mercado da Ribeira” for the second time in a week. Meeting in the morning and visit to the fish shop. Visiting the “amadora market”. Meeting in Lisbon to evaluate a possible cooperation with another company. Weekly meeting with Sodomar team…redefining new tools…Ufff…

1st weekly meeting and another visit to our office in MARL. New tools are being used by the team to create a better sense of “getting things done”. People feel that they depend on each other to make progress. Everyone is feeling comfortable.

Morning spent at the “Praça da Ribeira” for some more observations. One of the most iconic fish markets in Lisbon. The project is already in the implementation phase but we feel that it’s always good to keep contact with reality. We never know what are we going to discover next and being in these places always makes think in different opportunities.

After this visit we had a 3 hour meeting with a possible future partner that contacted us after discovering the “fishing for ideas” website.

Exactly 30 days after we’ve started this journey we traveled to Ericeira for the big day where we had the all team of Sodomar together for the presentation. About 90 minutes presenting the results of our research. Talking about the problems we’ve identified, presenting ideas and establishing goals for the future. We managed to get everyone’s attention during the all time and at the end we had a good discussion round and a delicious lunch which is something that  we consider extremely valuable. We want to see this happening more times in the future. We know that in the end…this is just the beginning.

We went back in time in this blog to see when had we started to test out 1st prototype. It was 10/11 days ago. And guess what? It still needs some refinements – we need to make sure that everything will work beautifully and we will change some procedures in the next few days – but it is working . The good news is that, after 10 days we have 5 new clients and…we are selling FISH my friends. We are selling fish.

Next week we have to hope for more.

The day ended with a small talk and presentation of the distribution system at MARL. We iterated it, but in a way it was more about creating awareness regarding existing processes and optimizing roles along the distribution chain.
It was also a nice moment to understand which language we should use for our final presentation next monday, so that we can better express our ideas and engage people towards action. It’s being a learning process and today we learned something new.

By the way, we are already making some change. Our constant engagement with the Sodomar people, the openness of our process, and the discussion of our point of view as empowered them to act on crucial points, that they think it couldn’t be changed. Another myth was broken at Sodomar…
